YWCA Sonoma County is the only local agency providing survivors of family violence and abuse with specialized therapy services. Recognizing the overall goal as putting an end to the cycle of violence, therapy services serve as an important intervention and prevention measure. Services are offered in English and Spanish to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. The cost of each session is set by an income-based sliding scale.
Mothers and children residing in our Safe House and participants in the Encore Program have the opportunity to attend individual therapy sessions. Additionally, children who attend A Special Place Preschool can receive individual and family therapy services. Through attending therapy, as well as support group, participants receive support, education and confidence that enable them to break the cycle of violence. Women and children who are experiencing abuse in their relationships can work with our therapists for short-term and long-term therapy.
Group Therapy – Increased Confidence through Support and Education
Support Group participants receive support and education that enable them to break the cycle of violence. Community support groups are available both for women who have left abusive environments and have their own housing arrangements, and for women who have not left. Support groups are offered in English and Spanish and are free of charge.
