Donated Items Policy
Since our inception in 1975, YWCA Sonoma County has benefited greatly by local support where our clients' personal needs are concerned.
The best support you can provide is to purchase gift cardswhich allow women and children in our care decision making ability to select and purchase wardrobe items which are uniquely their own from the following local retailers.
J C Penny, Kohl's, Macy's, Payless Shoes, Sears & Target
In addition, if your clothing items meet the following criteria, we will gladly accept deliver at our Administrative offices from 9:00 a. m. to 4 p. m. weekdays located at 811 Third Street in Santa Rosa based pm the schedule of seasons below. Please plan to complete our donated items form and estimate the value of your drop off so we may properly thank you and provide a receipt for your taxes.
Ladies Clothing and Children't clothing ages 3 to 17 years meeting the following criteria only:
Infant to Toddler age appropriate clothing (newborn to 2T) meeting the following criteria ONLY
An Important note on clothing - If your items have already been placed in bags or if you were not anticipating our requirements for items to be clean, pressed and on hangers we want you to know we partner with the following organizations who would gladly receive your donations which once prepared would be placed in their retail locations where YWCA clients shop with pre-paid vouchers - supporting these groups does support YWCA Sonoma County - thank you!
Magazine and Periodicals - Participants in our programs do not have a need for periodicals and magazines, so we do not accept them for donations.
Personal hygiene items - BRAND NEW make-up items, toothbrushes and paste are always welcome but trial sizes of any variety ARE NOT A GOOD FIT FOR OUR FAMILIES. Often a stay in our shelter can last several weeks - we prefer to furnish large volume shampoos and conditioners (thus eliminating the need for a client to ask for more trial sizes). Empowerment and autonomy is key to recovery for our families - thank you for your understanding. We simply do not have a demand for trial sizes of hygiene items and respectfully ask that these items not be donated.
Household furniture and home furnishings - regrettably our current staffing does not include personnel capable of moving items of furniture and we do not own a truck. . .but, we welcome items we may pass along to families in our care as they transition into their own homes. Please send photos and dimensions of these donations directly to Alison Dunbar, adunbar at ywcasc.org - and within 10 business days we will respond to let you know if we have found a home for these items.
If you prefer to move items more quickly we want you to know that proceeds from the profits of Treasure House Consignment Store fund YWCA's programs - consigning with them makes money for you and serves to become a donation to YWCA as well.
